At Magical Pond you can experience the silence, pure nature and the Arctic night in the privacy of a modern glass igloo. The architecturally spectacular igloo village offers a wonderful all-round experience, often crowned by the Northern Lights and starry night sky of winter and the midnight sun of summer.
In the magnificent igloos, it is possible to spend a memorable time all year round. From the nightless nights of summer, to the brown of autumn, to the snowy wonderland of winter, to the nature coming to life in spring, you can enjoy a magical experience in all seasons. If you’re lucky, the wildlife of the forest may greet you outside your windows.
OUR STORY
Magical Pond is an atmospheric igloo village built in 2019 in the childhood landscape of the owner Johanna on a wooded plot of her family’s farm. According to property records, the farm has been in Johanna’s family since 1885. The idea to build the igloo village was born on a magical night, when silence descended on this pure northern nature and the sky filled with stars and northern lights. This empowering and calming experience made me think that everyone should experience such a moment at least once in their life.
“In our busy everyday lives, we value the moments that are important for our well-being more than the material. We wanted to create an experiential place where travellers can experience the silence, pure nature and the Arctic night in the privacy of a comfortable and modern igloo. After a day of outdoor activities and socialising in the wilderness, it’s lovely to relax in the sauna of the lodge. At the end of the evening you can enjoy Kuusamo delicacies and have a glass of South African wine. We wanted to bring a South African twist to Magical Pond, inspired by the country of our daughter’s birth. We visit the North ourselves several times a year to relax and experience the power of being truly present. We hope you can experience that same peace during your visit.”
Close to Igloukylä is the café Lammintupa, “Winter Village”, founded by Johanna’s sister, which completes the overall experience, offering visitors the opportunity to discover Lapland’s exotic animals and clean food using local ingredients.
