OUR STORY
– Born from Silence, Inspired by Light

Magical Pond began in 2019, born from a moment of stillness on Johanna’s childhood land – a moment when the northern sky exploded into color and everything else disappeared. That night, beneath the stars and auroras, the idea took root: to create a place where people could feel that same wonder, peace, and connection.

The igloo village stands on a forested plot that has been in Johanna’s family since 1885. With deep roots and even deeper love for this land, Johanna and her family set out to build more than just accommodation – they created a sanctuary. A place where modern comfort meets ancient calm.

In our fast-paced world, we believe the most valuable luxury is presence. That’s why each igloo is designed to slow you down, to bring you closer to nature, to yourself, and to those you love.

More Than a Stay—A Complete Experience

Just steps from Magical Pond is Café Lammintupa, also known as the “Winter Village,” founded by Johanna’s sister. Here, visitors can discover Lapland’s enchanting animals and enjoy delicious dishes crafted with pure, locally sourced ingredients – rounding out an unforgettable journey for all the senses.

Private events / lounge

Are you organising an event for your company? In our igloo village you will find the main building, which is like a living room for us. Now you can come and enjoy its atmosphere for a private event. The space can be flexibly adapted to your needs. You will have access to modern facilities for meetings and training days. We can cater for all kinds of events, from meetings to Christmas parties.

In the winter, crown snowload covered trees trees decorate the village and inside the atmosphere is warmed by the fireplace. If you wish, you can relax in the warmth of the sauna, enjoy a cold drink on the terrace surrounded by a magnificent forest landscape.

We can arrange catering for the event, and if you wish, our lobby bar will serve you throughout the event. From the lobby bar you will find a selection of carefully selected wines, cognacs, as well as our own tasty drinks. We have a seating capacity of around 25, but the size of the event will vary depending on the nature of the occasion.

I
Our company has chosen to dedicate to a level of social, cultural, environmental and economical responsibility. Sustainability is a big part of our everyday life. We want to build a company that takes in attention following aspects: ecologogy, ethics, local culture, quality and safety.

Nature is what we appreciate the most. Through local forests and its inhabitants we want to show our guest why it is important to take care of our nature. Through our services and design elements in the rooms we want our guests to be acquainted with local suppliers and products.

During the fall of 2020, we received the Green Key certificate and the Sustainable Travel Finland label. Both programs help us maintain existing acts of responsibility and find new sustainable methods of operation and goals. The Green Key award is a leading standard of excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.
This prestigious eco-label represents a commitment by businesses that their tourism establishments adhere to the strict criteria as stipulated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

In Finland, Green Key is managed by Going Green Oy that is a social enterprise owned by FEE Finland. A Green Key stands for an establishment’s promise to its guests that by opting to stay with such an establishment, they are helping to make a difference on an environmental and sustainability level. The high environmental standards expected of these establishments are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent audits.

Here is what we do to make our planet, our destination and our product better:

  • 100% of electricity we use is generated by hydropower, a renewable source of energy
  • We have ground source heat pump in our igloos, it also makes our rooms quieter comparing to other heating systems
  • We use natural and local products for decorations, for example: wooden sink made by Finnish company Woodio, bedding is made of natural material – linen, in addition to it we also have dishes made by local company in Posio Pentik
  • Our goal is to minimalize amount of waste, especially plastic, that is why we use only refillable toiletries
  • Washing liquids we use for cleaning is also certified as environment friendly
  • We employ locals
  • We cooperate with companies that also have sustainable policies.

I
How can I make a booking?

You can make the booking directly from this link or by clicking the Book button in the top right corner of the page.

The price per igloo is the same for one or two adults. The beds are large, so there is space for one child to share the bed, but unfortunately, no extra beds are available.

Breakfast is always included for bookings made through our website, unless the rate specifically states otherwise (for example, a special summer promotion without breakfast).

Yes! All activities are only 10 minutes away. We recommend booking your activities in advance, and you can make your reservations directly through the service providers’ websites.

  • Lammintupa – Activity park is located very close to Magical Pond, just a 10-minute walk (700 m) away.
  • Ruka Adventures – Wide range of activities. Safari House is located approximately a 10-minute drive from Magical Pond.
    For activities booked for two guests, transportation to and from Magical Pond is included.

In addition to the guided activities, you can enjoy snowshoeing in the Magical Pond woods free of charge
or rent fat bikes for 30€ per person for 2 hours.

Sauna & Jacuzzi
We also offer a private sauna experience for 60€ per hour (up to 2 guests), including light snacks. For an even more relaxing experience, you can book our 2-hour private sauna and outdoor jacuzzi package for 195€, including light snacks for two.

Yes. We are reservation based restaurant and therefore recommend booking well in advance.

Our restaurant is open during the winter season, Monday to Sunday from 17:00 to 22:00.

Dinner reservations are confirmed for a minimum of four guests. Smaller parties are welcome as well.

Please note that we reserve the right to combine groups during dinner service.
We also offer halal meat upon request to ensure an inclusive and authentic dining experience for all guests.
When making your inquiry, kindly inform us of any food allergies or special dietary requirements.

We are located in Ruka-Kuusamo, Finland. The nearest airport being Kuusamo.
You can book flights from Helsinki via Finnair.com and there are also several direct connections from major European cities.

If you’re arriving by air, we recommend booking your taxi in advance. We are happy to assist you with arranging a taxi, or you can book one independently with our reliable local taxi partner, Rukan Taksipalvelu. You can contact them here or by email at info@rukataksi.fi. Please note that taxis must be booked at least 24 hours before arrival. For urgent enquiries, please call +358 6000 4141 directly. The price from Kuusamo Airport to Magical Pond is approximately 85€.

Rovaniemi is approximately 2.5 hours away. There are bus connections available, and schedules can be found in English. Alternatively, you may also rent a car or take a taxi (we recommend always confirming the rate beforehand).

The best time to visit the northern parts of Finland to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis is between October and March.
There are many great apps for predicting the Northern Lights, such as My Aurora Forecast, which is also free to use.
We also have our own Magical Pond Aurora Alert, which notifies you whenever the Northern Lights are visible above Magical Pond.

Remember to set your phone to night mode when taking photos of the Northern Lights.
